NADD Webinars will feature Curriculum on Certification Competencies
Beginning in 2017, NADD will present the 1st of a series of webinars that will help people prepare for applying for NADD certification and will focus on the competency areas identified in each of the NADD certification areas. In addition to people interested in NADD certification, these training’s can also be taken by anyone who wants to learn about or brush up on a particular topic. A learner may sign up for a single webinar or for as many as he or she wishes to take.
Save on NADD Clinical Certification When You Take the Competency Trainings
People who take the Clinical Certification Competency Trainings (webinar or streaming) will be entitled to a discount when they apply for NADD Competency-Based Clinical Certification within one year of taking the training. Save $20 off the cost of NADD Clinical Certification for each training that you take. Take all five training’s and save an extra $25 off the cost of Clinical Certification (in addition to saving 20% on the cost of the training’s).
When you apply for Certification, let us know that you have taken the training’s, so that we can apply the discount.
NADD Competency-Based Clinical Certification
The first set of five-part webinars will focus on competencies identified in the NADD Competency-Based Clinical Certification. There will be a webinar for each of the following competencies (topics):

- Assessment of Medical Conditions
The first webinar in the series will be ‘Competency Based Clinical Certification: Assessment of Medical Issues’ by Julie Gentile, MD, NADD-CC, registration is now open!
In the session Dr. Julie Gentile, MD, NADD-CC , a Professor and Project Director from Wright State University Dept. of Psychiatry/ Ohio Coordinating Center of Excellence in Mental Illness/Developmental Disabilities, in Dayton OH will present on medical conditions in patients with intellectual disabilities that are often complicated and involve behavioral issues. It is common for individuals to present to mental health professionals with un-diagnosed medical conditions, making it vital that the clinician be aware of the most common conditions and be able to make referrals as appropriate.

Competency Based Clinical Certification: Assessment of Medical Issues

It is common for individuals to present to mental health professionals with undiagnosed medical conditions, making it vital that the clinician be aware of the most common conditions and be able to make referrals as appropriate.

Competency-based Clinical Certification: Assessment
Deceil Moore, LCSW, NADD-CC
Presentation will review core concepts and competencies necessary to complete best practice behavioral health assessments of persons with IDD and how these apply to the process of applying for and achieving NADD-CC certification. Emphasis will be placed on necessary information and how best to gather it.
3) Thursday, March 2, 2017 – 3 PM EST
Competency-based Clinical Certification: Psychotherapy Competency
Tim Barksdale, PsyD, NADD-CC
The ability of psychotherapy to address mental illness in people with intellectual disability is frequently overlooked because of reasons that include diagnostic overshadowing, over reliance on behavior interventions and discrimination. A demonstrated knowledge of the use and value of psychotherapy for treating people with intellectual disabilities and co-occurring mental Illness is one of the five competencies needed to receive the NADD clinical certification. This webinar will review all requirements and steps needed to achieve this certification and then review the knowledge base and resources available for psychotherapy.
4) Friday, March 10, 2017- 3 PM EST
Competency-based Clinical Certification: Introduction to Clinical Psychopharmacology as Preparation for Clinical Competency

This material will present psychopharmacologic concepts from a clinical perspective through the lifespan from approximately early school age to the aging adult. The discussion will focus on principles of care using medications as a primary or adjunctive treatment to disorders or problem behaviors in the target population.
5) Thursday, March 23, 2017- 3 PM EST
Competency-based Clinical Certification: Positive Behavior Support and Effective Environment
Daniel Baker, PhD, NADD-CC
This webinar, explains the process of NADD Clinical Certification and highlights the considerations of clinical certification in the areas of positive behavior supports and creating effective environments. The components of a positive behavioral support approach will be articulated. Considerations for functional behavioral assessments will be included. Implications for intervention and features of a comprehensive treatment plan will be addressed.
Registration – The cut-off for receipt of all registration forms is five (5) business days prior to the Webinar. Registrations received after this point will not be processed.
