NADD Webinars Are Featuring Curriculum on Certification Competencies

In 2017, NADD is presenting a series of webinars intended to help people prepare for applying for NADD certification.  The webinars focus on the competency areas identified in each of the NADD certification areas.  In addition to people interested in NADD certification, these training’s can also be taken by anyone who wants to learn about or brush up on a particular topic.  A learner may sign up for a single webinar or for as many as he or she wishes to take.

In the Spring, a series of five webinars was offered on the Clinical Certification competencies.  Now, in the Fall, we are offering webinars on the Dual Diagnosis Specialist Certification competencies:

  1. Multi-modal Bio-psycho-social Approach
  2. Application of emerging best practices;
  3. Knowledge of therapeutic constructs;
  4. Respectful and effective communication;
  5. Knowledge of dual role service delivery & fiduciary responsibilities;
  6. Ability to apply administrative critical thinking.

Communication drives effective supports, significantly impacting the quality of life for each person with a Dual Diagnosis. Professional, Person Directed and Person-Centered communication techniques are defined and discussed as primary tools for all Dual Diagnosis Specialists.

Competency – Service Delivery and Fiduciary Responsibility

Dual Diagnosis Specialists play an important role in ensuring appropriate services for persons with co-occurring disorders.  The ability to work across systems, monitor outcomes, and arrange for appropriate services are required.


3)  FRIDAY, OCTOBER 6, 2017  3 PM EST 

Competency – Therapeutic Constructs

It is important that people who care and work with people with a dual diagnosis can identify and have knowledge of effective trauma informed approaches. Understanding the approach and the skills that will be developed are an intricate part of being able to identify and assist in finding a provider who can deliver these types of approaches. These resources while available, are sometimes difficult to find. A review of resources and the available modalities will be discussed.



4)  TUESDAY, OCTOBER 10, 2017  3 PM EST 

Competency – Emerging Best Practices

The understanding of assessment and existing best practice is crucial for a D.D.S. Certification applicant.  This webinar focuses on helping applicants to know what the expectations are in regards to understanding assessment and best practice.


5)  THURSDAY, OCTOBER 12, 2017  3 PM EST 

Competency – Administrative Critical Thinking

This will review the elements of administrative critical thinking for people seeking certification as a NADD Specialist.


6)  WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 18, 2017  3 PM EST 

Competency – Multi-Modal Approach

Astrid Berry, NADD-DDS, NHS, Harrisburg, PA


Multi-Modal Approach is an important part of the first in a 6-part training series designed to assist preparation for the NADD Specialist Dual Diagnosis Certification.  This presentation will familiarize the participant with the bio-psycho-social approach which is the best practice standard for supporting individuals with an intellectual disability and mental illness. 


Registration – The cut-off for receipt of all registration forms is five (5) business days prior to the Webinar.  Registrations received after this point will not be processed.
