Dual Diagnosis In-Person Training

Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Welcome!

We are inviting you to a pilot training series which is part of a project between the FDDC (Florida Developmental Disabilities Council) and NADD (an association for individuals with intellectual disabilities and mental health needs).

The purpose of this training series is to pilot test a curriculum that we developed for school districts, community agencies and family members on the topic of dual diagnosis. The training sessions will include strategies that promote increased understanding of the support needs of individuals who are dually diagnosed with I/DD and co-occurring mental health diagnoses and/or challenging behaviors, including autism.

The ultimate goal is that these trainings will promote practices that help prevent unnecessary interventions and placements for people who are dually diagnosed.

The in-person sessions will be held in Fort Lauderdale August 29th & 30th, sessions will be held between the hours of 8:30am-3:30pm EST.

The in-person trainings will be held at the following location.

Courtyard by Marriott Fort Lauderdale Downtown
721 N Federal Hwy
Fort Lauderdale, FL 33304

The topics we are covering in the training are as follows:

  • Understanding Dual Diagnosis
  • Crisis Prevention and Intervention: Reducing Risk
  • Working Effectively with Autistic People
  • Augmentative and Alternative Communication
  • Trauma-Informed Approaches
  • Positive Supports and Wellness

The content of the training modules is our first attempt at developing effective training for families, schools, and agencies. Part of the input we seek is what should be added to the content to make it more meaningful for these groups.

We would be immensely grateful for your attendance and insights.

Thank you
